The 2008 Artisans

Basketry
Judith Saunders
My interest in weaving three-dimensional forms was peaked in a one-week workshop at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Tennessee in the early eighties. While traditional basketry techniques are used in my work, I lean toward non-traditional materials and more sculptural than functional forms. The forms vary from wearable "Memory Pouches", to forms that appear to grow from worn seashells, to twenty-inch painted watercolor paper forms, and all copper vessels. 252-928-6987 beachbasket@verizon.net

Ocracoke, NC residents Cindy Fiore and Gael Hawkins create unique jewelry pieces designed for both casual and more formal occasions. Although Fresh water pearls, Venetian glass beads, beach glass, faceted semi-precious stones, and antique beads shape the majority of their collections, they often use rare precious stones as accents. Most pearl pieces are constructed using the traditional hand knotted silk cord method. Clasps are chosen to complement each design and are Sterling Silver unless otherwise noted.

Margaret Anne Miller
Having lived by the Atlantic Ocean since 1963, it was only natural that I would eventually combine my love of art with my love of the beach. I work in a variety of metals, mainly sterling silver and welcome custom orders using your own special treasures.252-441-2644 www.lowtidejewels.com info@lowtidejewels.com
Evelyn Tillett
Both of my parents were from the Outer Banks. My father was raised in Wanchese and Momma was a Stowe from Hatteras Village. They loved the Outer Banks and from a very early age I learned to love this area as much as them. Nature has always inspired my jewelry designs and my newest line, "My Garden", contains treasured memories of time spent watching flowers sway to a gentle breeze and of listening to the birds sing their cheerful songs and dance in graceful flight. 252-305-0749

Kim Mosher
Kim Mosher found the magnificent Outer Banks of North Carolina to be a wonderful place to live if you are an artist. Jim Mitchem
My interest in maps dates back to my childhood and reading Treasure Island. As all children know in stories of pirates and buried treasure, X marks the spot. And that did it for me. I've drawn maps of imaginary islands since those early days. Living on the Outer Banks has afforded me the time and opportunity to study its rich history and I have done my best to record that on my hand drawn, watercolor prints.

Soaps
Sarah Alexander
I started Sarah's Handcrafted Soaps because I really wanted to do my own thing so I could stay home with my children. I started making a few soaps after running across a recipe I had kept for several years. I started out selling a few to the playschool moms and from there it has just kind of snowballed into this little business. I now make several soaps, lotions, lotion candles and lotion bars. I handcraft everything in my home located in Indian Trail, North Carolina.
